Do you make a lot of international phone calls? You do? How much does it cost you? Helluva lot? Yeah. I know the feeling. Whilst studying in a foreign land away from your loved ones, there's nothing more convenient than picking up a phone and calling home. But the costs! Oh, woe!

In the past, calling IDD numbers would have cost anything from 20p/min upwards . But thanks to modern technology, and the advent of the internet, we are lucky to have cheap rates starting from 5p/min (or even lower!) .

Go into any convenience store, and ask for IDD phone cards, and you'll be assaulted by a vast array of choices. Most of these require you to call a local or toll-free number to access. You then have to key in an access code followed by the number you wish to dial. Some phone cards are better for calling certain regions, and the difficulty is in finding the right phone card to make a certain call. In addition, the talk credit on the card usually has a fixed time period before expiring. Others have a connection fee per call made, e.g. 25p per call. And to make it even more confusing, some phone cards have a daily fee... e.g. 10p a day... which means that after 30 days, the credit available drops by £3.00. This means that, although the stated talk time is about 400+ minutes, you might not actually get that. Unless you'll making a really long phone call... :)

Just-Dial allows you to make IDD calls, all at local call rates. How does it work? Well, you call a local telco number (see below), which gets charged at a local rate. Follow the instructions, and make your international phone call. It's that simple.

And here's another bonus. Most everyone with a contract mobile phone have free local talk time, right? Well, if you use BT (O2), you can call 0870 and 0844 numbers using your free minutes. In other words, it's FREE. Wow. Another great innovation. But, seriously. Technically, it isn't free. It's already been paid for. you're just making full use of it.
